Built for the Tanzanian market

Tanzania runs on mobile money. M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money, and HaloPesa carry everyday savings and payments, and the Bank of Tanzania’s TIPS instant payment system links wallets and banks. A core platform here has to collect and reconcile mobile money as a first-class rail, which Sika already does in Ghana.

The Microfinance Act of 2018 sets four tiers: deposit-taking microfinance banks and non-deposit-taking providers licensed by the Bank of Tanzania, SACCOS supervised by the cooperative regulator, and community groups such as VICOBA. VICOBA and SACCOS mirror the susu and group-savings model Sika already runs natively in Ghana.

KYC in Tanzania centres on the NIDA National ID. Sika’s national-ID layer is pluggable per country, so a Tanzanian deployment can verify NIDA numbers the same way a Ghanaian one verifies the Ghana Card. The platform is built for more than one country from day one.

Bank of Tanzania (BoT)

Sika already runs tiered KYC, AML and sanctions screening, maker-checker segregation of duties, immutable audit logs, and reporting. Before going live in Tanzania, we confirm the full BoT requirements with our first partner institution.

Digital banking in Tanzania: FAQ

What is the best core banking platform for a microfinance institution in Tanzania?

Sika Digital Banking Infrastructure is a white-label core banking platform suited to community banks, microfinance providers, and SACCOS: a double-entry ledger, national-ID KYC, group savings, and digital lending. Does Sika support M-Pesa and other Tanzanian mobile money?

Sika’s mobile-money layer already collects, disburses, and reconciles MoMo in Ghana on an idempotent, atomic ledger. M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money, and HaloPesa plug into the same layer, and those connections go live with our first Tanzanian partner institution.

How much does core banking software cost in Tanzania?

Sika uses transparent monthly subscription pricing with modular add-ons, from a Launch tier for small institutions up to enterprise deployments. There is no multi-year licence or large upfront implementation fee. Pricing for Tanzania is quoted in shillings when the market opens.

When is Sika available in Tanzania?

Ghana is our launch market. We open each new country when an anchor institution is ready to go live there. Sika is already built to adapt: currency, phone formats, national-ID verification, and mobile-money rails plug in per country. Register your interest to help decide where Sika goes next.
